apparently there exists a curious habit in Dobruja (at least the Romanian part) of making Turkish-style coffee in a heated kettle filled with sand. the product is then called “Cafea la nisip”, which means coffee on sand.
seems like something similar is also made in Greece using a hovoli, which is a brass kitchen tool used to heat up sand indoors for making coffee. not sure where else this is used, but it’s certainly not something present in the ex-Yu.
